I’m thinking about redoing the cover for Early Daze and I’m looking for opinions on what photo I should use for it. I think it will be just a plain photo with text over it, so the picture is all important. Here’s the current one and also two others that I’ve found. My thinking with using a pregnant woman is that it will give some clue to what the book is about, and right after you have a baby you still look pregnant anyway. I don’t want to use a picture of a premature baby and I can’t find any good images for mothers in the NICU.
Could you please vote for the one you think suits the book best and that you would be most likely to click on.
If you have any thoughts about any of the photos, or you have a better idea for a cover image, please leave a comment and let me know.
I’ve been playing around with covers for my new novella. Because it’s a bit more serious than my previous work, I’m tempted to go with something different. Then again, maybe it’s better to stick to my “brand”.
Here are some ideas I’ve had. They’re just rough mock-ups, but I’d really appreciate opinions – on the types of images as much as anything. Should it be an illustration like the others, a photo of a person, or something else entirely?
Life has always gone smoothly for Jess, but then she got pregnant and it wasn’t just her breakfast that started going down the pan. And now her baby has “fallen out” before she’s even started anti-natal classes.
As if sleep-deprivation wasn’t torture enough, Jess has a baby in hospital, new friends who seem determined to “broaden her horizons” and a fiancé she’d rather kick than kiss. Will her most intimate relationship be with her breast pump? Or with Neonatal’s resident single dad?
Don’t forget to vote for the title. I’ve added another couple of options since I launched that poll, and you are welcome to suggest anything you think might fit.
Designed a new cover for Flights of Nancy to fit in better with the new one for The Dr Pepper Prophecies. Put together by me, from stock vectors made by far more talented designers. I think it came out quite well.
Creating a book cover is a difficult business. Many people will ignore your book if they don’t like the cover, but how on Earth are you supposed to cater to widely varying tastes? I’m having a new one designed for The Dr Pepper Prophecies at the moment and it’s a scary business trying to get it right.
I thought I would share a few book covers that I love.
